Chelsea is an artist working in Ann Arbor, MI. She received her BFA, with a concentration in Graphic Design, from Eastern Michigan University. Additionally, she developed a passion for the physicality of painting, taking classes focused on the basics of oil and figure painting.
Upon moving to Chicago in 2015, she started experimenting with abstract acrylic painting. For her, “painting is a lesson in accepting imperfection. Flaws are what make each piece unique and beautiful. In life, we learn most when things don’t go as planned.” Much of her creative energy was focused on the extreme precision required in graphic design, however, painting quickly became her preferred form of self expression. Her inner and outer world reflected back on the canvas.
A way to zoom in and out, to puzzle over the tones, the texture, the details in nature and her day-to-day experiences. Bringing into focus the fabric that connects us all. Through exploration she’s come into her voice as an artist. Each piece a reverberation of the conversation within herself, with her surroundings, and with the times. Her paintings emerge through a state of flow layered with a collection of decisions; steps and connections landed upon by trusting her intuition and feeling her way forward.
